The Origin of Kirstein

With the help of several researchers at Google ( www.google.com ) I have started to dig into the origination of the family name Kirstein.
The surname Kirstein appears to be of German origin. There is no conclusive information on the origin of Kirstein, however, the surname 'Kirchstein' is listed in a German genealogy file, and that could have easily turned into 'Kirstein'. There's a process in Germanic languages by which groups of several consonants get simplified, called 'consonant cluster reduction'; see, for example, Germanic Philology Newsletter - "Open-syllable lengthening of vowels brings stressed syllables up to this normative length; shortening of vowels in closed syllables and reduction of consonant clusters brings syllables down to the norm or closer to it."
Since there were no newspapers et cetera hundreds of years ago, and people were not into being historically accurate and rather would spread myths, therefore it is most probably a wais…

I'm leaving Bang & Olufsen to join Martin Professional

After 6 years as Regional Director for North Europe at B&O I have decided to move on to an exciting new position as Executive Vice President at Martin Professional - a producer and distributor of computer controlled lighting, also called "intelligent lighting", high technology luminaries utilized throughout all sectors of the entertainment industry. Martin also produces a complete line of Jem smoke machines as a complement to intelligent lighting. Other important areas of application include the growing market for indoor and outdoor architectural and promotional lighting. Martin offers both dedicated exterior luminaries and specialized lights for retail settings.
I'll start on my new assignment September 1st 2007.

Pals for Ever

I never had a photo like this taken together with my father. It just strikes me when I prepared this photo for Flickr. I'm going to treasure this photo for the rest of my life and I'm sure my son Christian will look at it many times too - also when I'm gone - and think back on this special moment we shared in Italy in July 2006.
